Leica Microsystems Launches Miniature High-End Microscope
Switzerland, Swiss Confederation May 19, 2008 -- HEERBRUGG, SWITZERLAND. The success of microsurgery stands or falls by the recognition of min-ute details (microstructures). During an operation, the surgeon is confronted with many quickly changing situations. For example, he usually needs a high magnification factor for the actual microsurgery. A mo-ment later, he may need a wide field of vision to take an overall look at the area that is being operated on, whereas there are times when a swift change of working distance or working position is necessary. Leica Microsystems’ HM500 offers a completely new approach to these requirements: miniaturizing high-end microscopes and combining them with the flexibility and ergonomics of head-mounted systems.
The unique optical concept combines perfect freedom of movement with an excellent view. The micro-scope is equipped with the very best precision technology. Coaxial light allows completely shadow-free illumination of the operating field. The light beam penetrates even the narrowest cavities, providing bright and homogeneous illumination. The result is immediately convincing: brilliant, crisp, high-contrast, distortion-free images and an incomparably large field of vision.
Comfortable and mobile
With the Leica HM500, the surgeon is always able to take the instrument from one operation to the next. The microscope can be easily adjusted to any user and is ready for multidisciplinary use in an instant. Thanks to its light weight, users can work for hours without tiring.
High-quality documentation from the surgeon’s perspective
The head-mounted microscope also works as a camera for documentation and presentation purposes. With its integrated video camera system including autofocus function, the Leica HM500 is the world’s only head-mounted viewing system to allow documentation and presentation from the surgeon’s perspective.
Leica Microsystems’ HM500 is therefore a remarkable combination of optical quality, magnification and unrestricted freedom of movement that enables the user to work in a completely natural way.
